That is not to say that the author did not try to create that world by adding little background details. While the story itself had a lot of promise and was indeed intriguing it was sadly lacking some sort of world building.

Howson sent me a PDF of this book to read in exchange for my honest review, and although I haven’t read any books quit like this one in awhile I was intrigued to say the least. It reads to me like the skeleton of a great series, but now the rest needs to be filled in to create the whole. I think the story is wonderful and holds potential, but the execution of it and writing seems amateur and could use some revisions and 'more', for lack of a better word. I want the full picture, just like Crystal does. I want to know the truth about Crystal! The mystery is wonderful and makes you want to know more.

It is a great story, and for me, the story is the most important part. Leo knows more than he lets on and he isn't the only one in Crystal's life with secrets that could unravel her truth. Leo is there with her and despite her attempts to push him away, he isn't going anywhere. Jump to a year later and Crystal is in the school her mother wanted her to go to, still hiding from her would-be murderer, and she is trying to unravel the truth of her past, her mother and herself. Crystal is 17 years old when her mother is murdered in a fire by a masked figure and Crystal is saved by Leo. I was given a PDF ARC of this book to read in exchange for my honest opinion.Ĭrystal has been hidden away in her home by her mother all her life for her 'protection', although Crystal doesn't understand this and wants nothing more than to be a part of the real world.
